Necessity is the mother of invention

The pandemic has seen people forced to encounter new experiences – be it new ventures, new careers, new hobbies and for children, globally new ways of learning. It seems that the old expression is true - necessity really is the mother of invention.

At LSC, our ambition to launch a series of research-based Leadership Courses and Workshops alongside our established leadership recruitment service was something that had been discussed and dissected at strategy days. Never did we imagine two summers ago, as we gathered in beautiful Devon for our ‘away days’ grasping our flip charts and marker pens, that a pandemic would be the launch pad to this wing of the LSC Consultancy. Yet here we are, a year on from our first series of tutorials, boldly named, ‘Unlocking the Lockdown’, now offering a variety of courses and workshops to leaders globally.

Why are our courses different to other offerings? - “People, Purpose, Performance”

Our online courses are about creating communities, bringing together small groups of leaders to grow and share their school leadership experiences. The LSC team of programme and workshop leaders is a highly experienced group of leadership coaches and trainers, all of whom are former school leaders, in the UK and/or internationally. They have been instrumental in designing the courses and workshops and are committed to reconnecting school leaders with their inner purpose, so that they can become highly effective and values-led in their current and future leadership. Guided by these experts, the courses and workshops bring structure, focus and support to leaders worldwide. Early feedback suggest that now, more than ever before, school leaders need this sounding board, support, advice, and professional friendship.

We are currently offering 4 courses:

• #BetterBoards – Board members can join a cohort of other board members from accredited international schools from across the world as they learn the form and function of an effective international school board. This is board training with a heart. (Next cohort begins in April 2021)
• Positive Leadership - A workshop designed to help school leaders understand how to get the best out of themselves and their teams. A way to maximise their impact as a leader and improve personal fulfilment. (Current cohort underway; next cohort begins in summer 2021)
• Owning Your Leadership Voice – This course brings together with 12-15 other women in leadership positions within education. Meeting online once a month, they deepen their leadership understanding, share challenges, successes and learnings, with the aim of creating an empowering leadership community, whilst strengthening their leadership voice and impact. (Next cohort begins in March 2021)
• Difficult Conversations – We all face these. Leaders can learn how to overcome discomfort and lead positive, purposeful, and productive conversations with confidence, grace, and ease. (First cohot begins in April 2021)

While the perspectives and experiences of the pandemic continue to vary in different parts of the world, it does at the same time unite us all in this shared experience. We know from our many conversations with clients and leaders throughout the year that extraordinary things have been taking places in schools globally and that the challenges and rewards have been immense.

We hope that the LSC Courses and Workshops will continue to provide community, support and learning to leaders in which ever corner of the globe they are working.
