Wellington College China truly believes ‘We are our people’.  As such we look at ways to invest in our staff, enhancing their work experience,  offering them opportunities to learn and thrive amid a stimulating, educational environment.  Providing individual external coaching, driven by the employee so that they have full ownership, is one example of how we do this. Currently we have almost 40 of our most senior staff -academic and non-academic working with a variety of coaches several of whom are from LSC Education. The feedback from a recent survey was phenomenal:

  • 100% of coachees felt their coach understood their personal needs and development areas
  • 85% felt it has increased their ability to self-reflect
  • 100% wanted to continue working with their coach the following year

Further, the coaching has inspired almost 3 quarters of our most senior leaders to undertake coaching training themselves and they are now coaching high potential middle leaders. Staff have commented on the benefit of having time set aside to reflect on their practice, creating space to think about their own needs.  Others noted that the LSC coaches had helped them develop as a leader, a professional and also in life in general. There was a consensus that receiving coaching is the most effective form of CPD, with the LSC coaches asking thought provoking questions and being there as objective sounding boards. Certainly as an organisation, we have benefitted immensely and consider this personalised approach to staff development money well spent, as we see positive outcomes  cascading throughout Wellington College China.
