In a world of rapid transformation, traditional education systems often struggle to keep pace. Recognising the urgent need to align education with the demands of today and the challenges of tomorrow, Dalton School Hong Kong (DSHK) was established in 2017 as a non-profit, child-centred, dual-language (English/Putonghua) institution. Their vision was clear: to combine the richness of Chinese heritage with the innovative Dalton Plan, equipping their children with both the wisdom of the past and the skills essential for the future.
Since its inception, DSHK has evolved from a primary school into a thriving educational institution that now includes a Middle School, and a High School will rapidly be following suit. This growth reflects their unwavering commitment to providing a continuous, high-quality education that grows with their students. The school’s mission extends beyond just its classrooms; they are dedicated to making a significant impact on the educational landscape of Hong Kong. They aim to expand access to the Dalton education model and collaborate with educators to enhance the curriculum on offer in their city, ensuring that Hong Kong’s children keep pace with rapidly advancing technology.
The school’s journey has been defined by learning, growth, and strategic collaborations that have propelled their mission to new heights. Their ongoing partnership with Tsinghua University Primary School (TUPS) has been instrumental in enhancing their Chinese program and deepening their students’ cultural understanding. This collaboration includes student exchanges, teacher development, and the adaptation of TUPS’s award-winning curriculum for traditional Chinese characters, fostering a dynamic, dual-language learning environment.
They are equally excited about their collaboration with Think Learning Studio, an initiative of Think Global School. Together, they have developed the Trailblazer Curriculum—a project-based learning framework that transforms Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area into an expansive classroom. Here, students hone critical thinking and problem-solving skills in real-world contexts.
September 2024 marked a significant milestone in the school’s journey as they moved to their state-of-the-art campus on Stubbs Road. This new facility enables them to fully realise their vision of bringing cutting edge learning models and innovative breakthroughs to the students who call Hong Kong home. The facility offers ample space for the school to grow, including developing its new High School, and will eventually reach a capacity of over 1,000 students.
As the school continues to innovate and expand, they invite like-minded parents, students, and educators to join them in experiencing the Dalton difference. Together, they are not just shaping the future of education in Hong Kong—they are equipping their children to seize the opportunities and meet the challenges of tomorrow.
The Board of Directors are seeking to appoint a visionary, outward-facing Head of School to lead the full 5-18 continuum from August 2027. Reporting directly to the Board, the Head of School will foster a student-centred environment guided by the motto “I am not led, I lead,” ensuring graduates emerge as inquisitive, self-confident, responsible, and globally minded individuals. This role demands deep commitment to progressive education, cultural inclusivity, and operational innovation, while actively driving fundraising, institutional development, and public promotion to sustain and grow the school’s reputation as a leading international school in Hong Kong.
