Founding Principal

Wunti Montessori Academy
Bauchi State, Nigeria

The new Wunti Montessori Academy will be opening in Bauchi State, Nigeria in August 2025. The school is designed to provide an excellent education for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 in Bauchi, who, for many, currently have no access to education. Set in the heart of the town, the aim is to make the school as accessible as possible. The school will benefit from excellent, newly built facilities including 18 classrooms, science laboratories, art facilities, a library and outdoor space. Class sizes will between 25-30 children, so the eventual capacity of the school will be circa 540 pupils. Opening with Kindergarten and Primary 1, the school will start small, to build strong foundations for continued growth.

The focus will be on building a team of local teachers who understand the school’s vision and who are prepared to train and develop to teach to international standards. The school will engage local families who truly value education and have strong aspirations for their children. The curriculum will be designed as a blend between the Montessori approach and the local curriculum, to help children develop their self-reliance and creativity, and to support them to unfold their own potential. Within the local context, not all children will gain the opportunity to move on to secondary education, and therefore it will be vital that the school serves to develop life-skills and entrepreneurialism in the children. The Wunti Montessori Academy is a wonderful new initiative of the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation. It aims to be a world-class school which produces world-class outcomes.

About the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation

In 2020, Mr. Bala Maijama'a Wunti founded the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF) in Bauchi State, inspired by the urgent need to address the prevalent issues of poverty, hunger, and high illiteracy rates, particularly among children from underprivileged backgrounds. Recognizing the transformative potential of education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community development, WAKF was established as a non-governmental organization with a specific focus on implementing projects that would contribute to these crucial facts of society.

Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF), dedicated to driving impactful change in Nigeria, has successfully transformed the lives of thousands through its commitment to quality education, accessible healthcare, economic empowerment, and community development in Bauchi State and Nigeria.

The Foundation’s vision is to create a world where every individual, regardless of socio-economic status, has seamless access to quality education, comprehensive healthcare, and abundant economic opportunities. They strive to foster empowered, thriving communities that drive sustainable growth and progress. Their approach is rooted in collaboration and community engagement, partnering with local organizations to design and implement programs that deliver long-term, sustainable impact.

The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation’s dedicated Board of Trustees and Team are seeking to appoint a Founding Principal to commence in August 2025, or as soon as available, to prepare, launch and grow the new school. The appointed candidate will be a visionary and inspirational primary leader, who understands and is aligned with the Foundation’s vision and mission, and who ideally has experience leading schools in Africa. As well as being passionate about education, the Founding Principal must be someone with cultural sensitivity and awareness; a strong community-builder, who is able to listen, understand and respect what is needed to help and support the local community. The role will undoubtedly be challenging, but also hugely rewarding. The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation, through its outreach work, has already built goodwill within the Bauchi community, and the Founding Principal will benefit from leveraging that, to make the new school a success and a force for good.
