Principal

Chiswick House School & St Martin's College
Malta

Founded in 1905 by Miss Ethel Yabsley and Miss Madeleine Sceberras, Chiswick House School originally catered for the children of British families stationed in Malta. Mrs Yvonne Mangion, a cultured and visionary educator, acquired the school in 1962, and guided it to a new chapter in its varied history. The school is still owned and run by the Mangion Family, and Ms Marguerite Mangion, Mr Stephen Mangion, and Ms Bernie Mizzi, were pivotal in the expansion which took place in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1991, under the dynamic joint headship of Ms Bernie Mizzi and Ms Marguerite Mangion, the school moved to award winning premises in Kappara.

Chiswick House School offers a full educational programme to Early Years and Junior School pupils aged from two years and one month to ten years old, in a warm, safe environment. Further expansion took place in 1993 when, at the request of parents, the school re-introduced its Middle and Senior School classes. St Martin’s College was purpose-built in Swatar to meet the requirements and specifications of a leading modern college. The latest development in its long history of expansion and innovation has been the establishment of a successful Sixth Form, thus ensuring a full programme of education up to 18 years of age. The school also operates two off-site nursery provisions based in local organisations for children aged from 6 months. The whole school is led by Ms Bernie Mizzi as Director, along with a strong Senior Leadership Team of dedicated professionals.

Today, Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College are firmly established in Malta’s educational system as the largest independent educational establishment on the island, offering a top quality, mixed ability education following the Maltese curriculum to boys and girls not only from Malta, but also from over 30 other countries, with English as the main language of instruction.

This is an immensely happy and thriving school, with a motivated, energetic, and dedicated staff team, many of whom have been with the school for a significant number of years, yet who are continually growing and enjoy being professionally challenged. There are exciting projects on the horizon, including a major digital transformation for the school, the design and build of a new state-of the-art facility, and a continual drive towards innovation for improvement in the quality of teaching and learning.

Following over 40 years of distinguished service to the school, Ms Bernie Mizzi will be retiring in the coming year from her operational leadership, while remaining on the Board, and therefore the Board is seeking to appoint a Principal to lead Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College in the next stage of its growth and development.

The Board is therefore seeking to appoint a visionary, energetic and inspirational educational leader for Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College. The successful candidate will have strength of character, be a listener and a relationship-builder, with the ability to coach and develop leaders within their team and to work strategically with the Board. They will be an outstanding communicator who can build trust and win the hearts and minds of the whole school community and develop excellent relationships with wider stakeholders, both within Malta and internationally.
