Wellington College China represents the marriage of traditional values and progressive education. The Wellington values of Courage, Kindness, Responsibility, Respect and Integrity are as pertinent today as they were more than 160 years ago when Wellington College in the UK was founded.
Their vision is to inspire pupils to become intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive: the Wellington identity. This will be based on a model of holistic education and a pastoral provision that establishes the values and knowledge needed to be an effective global citizen. They aim to prepare pupils for success during and beyond life at the College by creating a caring, learning community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills and identity to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Wellington College China currently comprises colleges located in Tianjin, Shanghai and Hangzhou. Together they serve approximately 5000 pupils. The colleges are:
The Wellington College China, Huili Institute of Learning (WCC Huili IoL) is part of the group`s Central Office and has been established to support the delivery of the highest possible academic standards across all their schools through the provision of advice and professional learning opportunities to teaching teams and their leaders as well as non-academic departments. The WCC Huili IoL also provides vital information to board members, so that they may make informed strategic decisions. Finally, it leads and supports academic research within and outside of the group in order to extend Wellington’s influence and reputation and keep their practice at the cutting edge. This is driven by a sense of responsibility to be an organisation who believe in enabling their staff to be constantly learning and improving their knowledge and skills. Thus, the WCC Huili IoL is committed to supporting their schools to be the top Chinese/English bilingual school group in the world.
As a passionate and experienced group of practitioners, school leaders and consultants, the Institute of Learning team has a proven track record of leading policy and reform at national level, high impact professional learning and action research, and school improvement to meet the most rigorous inspection and accreditation requirements.
Impact on policy and practice is fundamental for effective and inspiring education and alongside each school`s leadership team, the WCC Huili IoL is constantly measuring the improvements in learning, teaching and school performance.
Learning is greatly informed by research and the exchange of ideas. With this in mind, the WCC Huili IoL is always reaching out internationally to fellow educators to establish networks for the sharing of ideas as well as organisations who can enable further professional qualifications through their own action research to develop their practice even further.
Opportunity for a wide range of professional learning and training is central to what they offer and covers a wide range of CPD from across the world and within their own schools. The range of training available is chosen from the strategic priorities of each school as well as a way of enhancing practice to enable individuals to move onto the next stage of their career. This includes offering opportunities for their own staff to train others in their area of expertise.
