FOUNDING MASTER

Huili School Nantong, WELLINGTON COLLEGE
China

LSC Education has been proud to support Wellington College China with their search for a founding Master for Huili School Nantong, which will open in September 2022. After an extensive global search and a strong longlist of candidates to select from, the Governors were delighted to appoint Simon Kenworthy, previously Headmaster of the Prep School at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi. Many congratulations, Simon, on this incredible opportunity.

Wellington College China group opens Huili School Nantong in August 2022 for boys and girls aged 3-18, aimed at providing a Wellington bilingual education to Chinese national families. The school is currently being built and its facilities have been designed to be world class. The design and appearance echo the distinctive classical style of Wellington College, Berkshire, and the building will be set amidst one of the largest and most attractive campuses in the world. Wellington College China’s new Huili school will be located in Nantong, a city of seven million people situated in southeast Jiangsu. Surrounded by the Huanghai Sea and Yangtze River on three sides, Nantong is one of the fastest-growing coastal cities in China. Its rich history and premium location have helped the city become a major economic and cultural hub in the Yangtze Delta. As the city is set to welcome a new airport and highspeed railway into its complex transport system, the travel time between Nantong and Shanghai will be cut to just one hour. The expected opening of the Sutong Bridge, in particular, will allow Nantong to further integrate itself into Shanghai and Jiangsu’s regional development in the coming years.

Huili School Nantong will be the sixth school in the Wellington College China family and will benefit from strong partnership and collaboration with its sister schools in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Tianjin and Jiashan. It will be actively building upon the long and successful history of Wellington College in the UK, comparing favourably with the very best schools anywhere around the globe, with a reputation centred on a breadth of excellence in both provision and achievement. Huili School Nantong will be led strategically by a Board of Governors, all of whom are fully committed to establishing the school as the best provision in the region.

THE WELLINGTON ETHOS

We know that the very best schools develop the whole child and we are resolute in our commitment to holistic education. We aim to create a caring and aspirational community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills to thrive in an ever-changing world. We will achieve this through holistic education and pastoral provision that establishes the values, aptitudes and knowledge needed to be an effective global citizen. By embracing the ethos of our prestigious and progressive partner, Wellington College in the UK, all Wellington and Huili schools aspire to help our pupils become the very best adults they can be. We have a clear understanding of what this involves, and we describe this as the Wellington Identity. A Wellingtonian will be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive. These are the foundations of our Wellington identity. Underpinning these aspirations, and this philosophy, is our commitment to the Wellington/Huili values of kindness, courage, integrity, respect and responsibility. The Wellington identity and the Wellington values affect every part of our practice and they are shared with the Wellington College, our prestigious partner in the UK. All schools carry the same Wellington College China name and therefore share the same reputation. As a group, there is a strong desire to combine the advantages of school level autonomy and group level expertise. WCC aims to raise standards in specialist areas to a level that a standalone school cannot match, especially in the non-academic functions of HR, IT, Finance, Marketing and Facilities.

Wellington College China is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
