DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

PADWORTH COLLEGE
Berkshire, UK

Padworth College was established in 1963, by Oxford university tutor, Peter Fison, and a group of Oxford dons, whose vision was to bring Oxford’s educational philosophy of tutorial teaching to school-level education.

The College operates from an 11-acre site in West Berkshire, south of Padworth village and approximately 2 miles off the A4 arterial road linking Reading with Newbury, with good rail links to Aldermaston station just a few minutes away. The College itself lies approximately 9 miles to the east of Reading. The site incorporates the original Grade 2* listed Georgian country house, Padworth House, which has since been converted to a college, extended and adapted to suit, plus a number of extension buildings of varying ages, including student accommodation blocks and the teaching block. Other facilities include tennis courts and an outdoor heated swimming pool. The site also includes a pond and areas of woodland.

Padworth College is part of Inspiring Futures Education (IFE). Established in March 2014 as a platform in the international education market, IFE acquired Bishopstrow College in August 2014 and Padworth College in October 2018. Bishopstrow College is a leading independent international boarding school, offering English language and academic pathway programmes to international students, aged 7-17 years. Further details on IFE and Bishopstrow College can be found at www.ifedu.com

The Directors of IFE have ambitious plans for growth at both colleges. Padworth College has c.60 students enrolled currently (c.80% international). The College’s Vision 2025 is predicated on growth to c.150 students over the next 5 years. At both Padworth and Bishopstrow, growth is expected to come from:

● Investment in admissions and marketing. IFE has recently appointed a Director of Global Engagement to take the lead in student recruitment, admissions and IFE’s overall marketing activities. In addition, IFE has recently appointed Regional Managers based in core regions, to support agents with recruitment for both colleges.

 ● The launch of new programmes, such as the NCUK International Foundation Year programme at Padworth.

 ● The development of relationships with local feeder schools (Padworth) and destination schools (Bishopstrow).

● Partnerships with schools overseas; and

● Growth in the number of direct applications, as a result of ongoing investment in digital marketing.

Padworth College programmes offer a broad range of academic subjects and extra-curricular activities. Students are taught in small classes with an average size of 6 to 8 students, which creates an Oxbridge tutorial style education, enabling optimum learning and encourages student-teacher interaction. The British curriculum is taught with a modern approach and a global outlook. The College places a strong focus on the development of independent learning to facilitate the transition from A-Level (or Foundation) to university. Programmes are also offered to support Oxbridge and Medical School preparation. Daily supervised prep (study periods) helps promote a mature approach to study, whilst weekly testing (on Saturday mornings) ensures progress is carefully monitored. Padworth College has a commitment to realising academic potential and finding the right career pathways for the individual.

Padworth College is an accredited member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and the Boarding Schools Association (BSA). It is a member of English UK and is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. The College was last inspected in 2018 when it was awarded 6 ‘Strengths’ across Teaching and Learning, Welfare and Students Services, and Accommodation. Padworth College is also an accredited NCUK Delivery Partner for the NCUK International Foundation Year programme and is a member of CIFE, the professional association for independent sixth form colleges.

The Directors and Principal of Padworth College are currently seeking to appoint an outstanding, inspirational, and dynamic Deputy Principal to commence in August 2021. The successful candidate will be a leader with energy, compassion and demonstrable experience of achieving the highest standards in their educational leadership. The focus for this post, and therefore the experience required, will be on driving academic results forward, enhancing the support provided with university applications and increasing the percentage of leavers securing entry to Russell Group universities. The appointed candidate will be joining a committed and dynamic leadership team to help drive forward the strategic growth and development of the College. Alongside the Principal, Head of Boarding and other residential boarding staff, the Deputy Principal will be expected to live on-site at the College and to be a full and active member of the College community.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo relevant background checks.
